JK's casualty

When I woke up this morning, I had a lovely surprise message. JK Rowling's book had a title! And a release date for September THIS YEAR!

Hazzar!

Happy Days!

Then I stumbled upon the synopsis...

When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early forties, the little town of Pagford is left in shock.

Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.

Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils...Pagford is not what it first seems.

And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?

Blackly comic, thought-provoking and constantly surprising, The Casual Vacancy is J.K. Rowling’s first novel for adults.

Right. So.

I'm going to say it, this sounds boring. However it is definitely worth remembering that JK didn't set out to write another HP book and I'm glad it's something so different. I'm not glad it's about local politics and a potential murder mystery but that's just me.

Personally, I'll read this book to the end because JK really is just that great a writer. She could make anything amazing and believable and I'm seriously hoping this is no exception.

Would I have liked another fantasy? Hell to the yeah. But I guess she's defining herself elsewhere and I'm just going to have to roll with it.

Scribble 'The Casual Vacancy' into September 27th kids! Way sooner than anyone could have hoped for I think.

But tell me, what do you guys think of the title and synopsis? And when it was released that JK was writing an adult novel, were you all picturing this?

Two Months' old

My blog has officially reached the mark (yesterday, actually) and when I started out with this blog I didn't know if it would actually go anywhere. I thought it would be one of those things I would start and then let patter off into nothingness. Maybe with the occasional blog here or there because I felt guilty.

The really funny thing is though - I FREEEEKIN LOVE IT!

There are random times through the day when I actually find myself wondering what my next blog will be. Or buying books specifically to review. There are times when I REALLY want to blog but can't because of uni/work/life and those times make me sad.

In short, I love my blog. I love the people who follow me, and the comments you guys leave always light up my day. I wish I had time to make my blog look a little fancier but I'll get to it one day. For now, I focus on the words and the 'virtual friendships' I have on here.

I think one of the other reasons I love it so much is because it's another way for me to hone my writing, and I get to be me. Not a character in their story. Not someone putting on a face and being who the people around me want me to be. I don't have to be funny or professional or even appropriate. I can make up words and scribble shit and be entirely honest about anything and everything. I CAN USE CAPS LOCK FOR CHRIST'S SACK! (And who doesn't love to use caps lock?!)

And so, I just want to leave this cute picture I stumbled upon today. One, as a thanks to you awesome people who follow me, and two, because I totally think it belongs here. Lolcats + zombie reference = winning!

I do not own this image. It is borrowed. The end. Haters.

Next week, will be a Hunger Games special on the blog. Umm... surprise? A review of the three books and the movie. With maybe some other stuff thrown in. That said, BRING ON THE REAPING, KIDS!

I'm gonna send my lovin' to you!

For Friday the thirteenth, I shared a little something from Corvette that I hoped was on the darker side. So, in honour of Valentine’s Day (and my official 'one month' mark), I’d like to share a little love from Jenna. Out of context of course, but hopefully you’ll enjoy :)

The hand that wasn’t propping him up reached out and stroked my face. My eyes fluttered closed at his touch as tingles flowed through me and it was then I realised I’d gone too far. I had to pull away, to get out of there, but I couldn’t. He shifted closer.
“To think you’re possibly the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen…”
My last chance. My last chance to do something, say something. My mouth opened feebly but no words came out.
His hand covered the whole side of my face as he shifted to hover above me. I saw the green in his blue eyes right before he closed them.
Then he kissed me.

~Christian and Jenna, Chapter eleven, Illusion of a Majesty

Feel free to leave thoughts – all are appreciated. I’ve grown a tough skin so I can handle pretty much anything.
Except, maybe, zombies.
Don’t send a horde of those after me, okay?

Black Friday

It's the first Black Friday in a long time. So I'm using this 'first' to get off my butt and actually start writing my first post. I've been told a lot that you never know what your blog is going to be about until you write the darn thing so I guess I have to start eventually.

To be honest, I've never been a 'blogger'. Maintaining two Facebook pages (personal and author) is hard work enough. Then there's the books on top of that. Seems like a whole lot of words to me. But I'm determined, some day down that long and treacherous road, to be published. And not self-published either because I don't care what people say, that kind of feels like cheating to me.

I guess, if you're reading this, you may want to know a little about me. Then again, maybe not, but I'm going to tell you anyway. Because this is my blog. So ner.

Firstly, I'm a nerd. No, I don't wear glasses (I kind of wish I did), but I read a hell of a lot and always have. I love the classics, I love fantasy, I love dystopian and I love chick lit so I guess I'll probably try my hand at some reviews. I don't love cook books unless they have some way of cooking the food for you. In my mind, they are just a tease.

I guess second, I should probably tell you now, I will talk about my books a lot. So don't say you haven't been warned. I love my characters, I love their settings, I love to write all the time. I don't love to torture my protags and kill off my characters but I do it anyway. Because it has to be done.

If I get the opportunity to travel, I am out of here. I can't think of any exception to that statement. I have a fiancee, he works with trains. I also have a kitten Maxi (who likes to use me as a scratching post) and a Shit-zu x Maltese called Stella. She is an angel. Except when she won't stop barking at four am FOR NO FRIGGEN REASON. Same goes for any hour past midnight and before eight.

Gossip Girls episodes will also be ripped apart on here I'm sure. Unless Chuck and Blair finally get back together. Then they will be praised above all else and I will not hear a bad word about them.

I'm well aware a blog takes a LONG-arse time to get off the ground but if you are anything like me (or completely opposite), let's be friends.

Because that's the last thing you need to know about me; I'm a good friend to have.
